Spaces

I think this will be my last work I do for the exhibition, still a few things left to do defining a few areas around the bins and darkening some areas.

GRDN

I Started this work in third year at VCA & worked on it quite solidly for at least 1/2 a semester. However working this way with coloured pencils is really time consuming because if you make a mistake you cant really erase (very lightly hit greys maybe but anything else will just smudge or the paper gets destroyed).

After graduating I studied interactive media for 2 years & I didn’t have enough space to work on it. Creating the image is a pretty complex process because of the setup required and my own self imposed rules on the work. The actual scene is to have never existed. That is to say the actual arrangement of objects as a whole has never existed, once I decide on a new edition for GRDN I set the new item(s) up on a large desk and draw around the existing elements.

Grumpy $ Apes & Cars

Because of the nature of the medium anything drawn is permanent which means a bit of planning has to be made around the order in which items are drawn as I do want to have quite complex labyrinthian layout. Also when drawing glass, plastic, reflective surfaces I need to allow for whatever might be near it, for glass you just draw as if there is no background and then makeup the distortion etc after there is a something to be in the background - reflections are trickier but it can be done.

The work has been stalled since late 2005 because I don’t have the required setup to work on it & I’ve been working on other projects.

Setup:

  • 2 x desks
  • Space for 2 x desks
  • lighting
